PEOPLE AND GROWING
I think of Dundee primarily as A Town By A River. Its location made it important and now it’s the source of its identity.
The Tay has never been tainted by industrial pollution in the same way as other rivers that run through cities. A reflective moment by the river takes you a journey of the mind, and the memory of it ultimately drew me back here.
Economically, the river made Dundee big enough to be cosmopolitan but its economic history has dictated that the city remains small enough to feel like a home town.
Culturally, Dundee has a strong sense of itself and an appreciation of the world beyond. I think the river is Dundee’s “open secret” for it is a place for thinking, reflecting and imagining. Few things are more cultured than that.
