Dudhope Park has been improved with lighting in the skatepark and nearby paths, improvements to the tennis courts and – very soon – a brand new play park! Being the main green space in the centre of Dundee it’s a great place to enjoy the sunshine!

Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) There is an early 16 century brass astrolabe in the McManus galleries. As an object it represents remarkable craftsmanship, it has a story to tell about seamanship, discovery, imagination, and those whose hands it passed through - it is one unique part of the story of this fascinating city.
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) The Space, at Dundee College where acting and performance and dance students and soon to be technical theatre students get trained and supported by very committed, enthusiastic staff to develop their skills and realise their full potential.
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) We Dundee... A city brimming over with design, creativity and optimism; warm and welcoming people with resilience and determination to succeed; fantastic jewellers, artists and designers (young talent: Scarlett Erskine, Leanne Evans, Hayley Scanlon); creative entrepreneurs like Vanilla Ink and the Fleet Collective where collaboration and talent ignite; the Parlour Cafe and Jessie's Kitchen; so many shows, exhibitions, festivals and events from the universities, the Rep, the DCA, the theatres, the galleries & museums; and a stunning location to live, work and enjoy. My Dundee is fabulous!
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) How it has improved since I was a student there in '60s
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) Dundee is truly multicultural and an open-minded person will be able to enjoy the city for this character trait!
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) The stories my gran told me of her time in the jute mills will never be forgotten. What terrible conditions to work under, for very little pay. The hard times they lived through made the women of Dundee strong but humorous, and a real sense of family. My gran's, and her parents, philosophy on family has been passed down the generations to my own children. Dundonian and proud.
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) The Cheesery in Exchange Street is fab. Dorothy knows so much about the wonderful cheeses she stocks.
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) Quartic Llama has seen things you humans would not believe. Attack ships afloat off the shore off the shoulder of City Quay. I watched sea beams glitter in the dark near the Over-Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like *moo* tears in rain. Time to live.
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) Born in Dundee nearly 80 years ago. Educated and qualified in Medicine there. Proud of the way Dundee has moved forward over these, quite difficult, years.
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) Dundee used to be "jam, jute and journalism". Now it is vibrant, with mainstream and arthouse cinemas, live concerts, good theatres, a wide range of restaurants, including those specialising in local cuisine as well as a variety of different ethnic cuisines, and both old and new places to relax and socialise. The fact that the museums and heritage sites are here is just the tip of the iceberg. Dundee offers something for everyone.
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) Moving to Dundee a few years ago, I quickly fell in love with the city with it completely surpassing my expectations.. It's a beautiful city full of talented people, with students from DJCAD producing spectacular work and creating a name for themselves. I'm proud to say that I live and study in Dundee.
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) The Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, as part of the University of Dundee, is ranked among the top art colleges in the UK for research, and led the country in student satisfaction surveys. As a testament to the quality of Education provided at DJCAD, its students have won more awards at the London New Designers exhibition than students from any other institution in the UK for two consecutive years.
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) The building of a pioneering ultra-Low energy, autonomous studio in the Botanic Gardens of Dundee, by Masters Architecture students at Dundee University.
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) Dundee has so much to offer. I love the Agacan on the Perth Road. Simple, uncomplicated Turkish food with the bonus of massive portions. It's like a little section of Turkey tucked away on the bohemian Perth Road.
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) It's always evolving!
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) The Discovery.
The McMannus.
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) Housed inside an old public library, The Reading Rooms is a small, intimate, underground music venue that has played host to many local & international musicians & DJ's.
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) I left Dundee around 8 years ago and when I returned I barely recognised the place, what a transformation!! It makes me even more proud to be a Dundonian!! Well done and good luck.
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) The Magdalen Green Bandstand on a bright morning standing majestically looking out over the Tay - surely one of the most picturesque views in Scotland...
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) hidden secrets
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) Dundee has got knocked down, it got up and continued. There is a feeling in the city that it won't be stopped whatever happens.
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) its friendliness and fun

Shopping Culture and Entertainment is vibrant in this city.
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) The University Gardens
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) Theatrical elements of the cultural life in Dundee only exist due to the hard working off stage volunteers (and staff) who spend time on committees, creating costumes, making scenery, dealing with the admin, fundraising, marketing and lots of other tasks. They are often under appreciated.
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) Dundonians are genuine and generous with big spirits and kind souls and I'm proud to be one and need to come home every year from Australia to get my fix! I'm a very proud ambassador for my home town and I love watching Dundee evolve! Good luck! X
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) Creative, vibrant & friendly city
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) I think Dundee is in a beautiful location, on the banks of the silvery Tay. I've often felt that the city hasn't used this to their advantage, until recently with the new waterfront development and the V&A. In the past Dundee has been a bit of a rough diamond compared to Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen but now I think Dundee has definitely started to sparkle!
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) I grew up in Dundee and now live in the USA. When I return home, which I do regularly, I'm always amazed about how much Dundonians know about other countries, cultures, and ways of life. It's a refreshing change for me, and a great asset for Dundee.

Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) Dundee aint no cookie cutter moulded city, and thank goodness for that. It is a force to be reckoned with in its continuous drive to reinvent itself time and again throughout its history, most recently in the birth of the waterfront project and the blossoming of the city's visual and performing arts scene. It is great to see that Dundee never tires of 'discovering' new talents within itself, and long may that last.
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) Dundee is a city full of quirks and quirkiness. I think there are more quirks per head of population than anywhere else I know! Yet its hard to put my finger on it. There's a quirky humour, quirky attitudes, quirky language, quirky culture, quirky history - in fact its just DIFFERENT. There's always a surprise just around the corner waiting to smack you right in the pus (excuse the quirky Dundee vernacular!). And that's what makes Dundee a wee bit special

This included drama, dance and a choral performance. Each performance was sold out and supported well by the Dundee public.
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) I love the way that you can escape the bustle when you need too - beautiful, quiet places are sometimes only a walk away.

Whether it be buildings or people it is an amazing city to be in.
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) Dundee is the place I associate with vibrancy. The art college and university are places of excellence, and both have produced pioneers in their fields.
The artistic community has a similar buzz which Glasgow had in the 1980s!
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) A small city where everything is happening! Dundee got strong roots, but also keep an eye on the future! Friendly people everywhere, nice wee places to eat! (I really love Lily and Stone caffe!) The waterfront is beautiful!
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) I love the view of the city from Fife - I always have that feeling of returning home. I could never imaging living anywhere else, I love the city & its people. Dundee has reinvented itself in the past & will do so again in the future.

Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) Apart from the obvious spots like The Law Hill, McManus Galleries, Sensation and The DCA. I am always in awe of sheer natural beauty of Dundee's many Parks and green spaces. They are not just places of stunning natural beauty but full of exciting things to do for everyone, regardless of age. The Wildlife Centre at Camperdown, the new sports hall and Pavillion in Baxter Park and the skatepark at Dudhope Park are just a few examples of the outstanding facilities on offer either free or at low cost. We embrace all cultures and encourage diversity, growth and free thinking.

i LOVE that the people of Dundee have HUGE ambitions and are very loyal to the city. I strive to meet my ambitions everyday and for five years have seen a MASSIVE amount of my customers share and live theirs too!
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) Dundee isn't an 'obvious' place - you have to dig a bit deeper than in other major cities. Once you do, you start to find places like Generator (pop up exhibitions by emergent visual artists) you see Performances in community centres and other strange places (by the Rep and Scottish Dance Theatre) and mini festivals for families all across the city. The difference is that you need to seek it out. You need to talk to people and make connections. Communicate with people and Dundee is one of the most exciting places you'll come across. It's all there for the taking.
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) The people never cease to amaze me, like my late father Denis Naulty, who had such a passion for for the city, its history and civic wellbeing.....
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) Take a walk through Balgay Park on a frosty winter night. Wind your way up through the trees till the heavens open up above you. The observatory is there but you won't need it; the stars are close enough to touch.
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) Between 1833 and 1850, Dundee built around 50 steam locomotives, some of the earliest in the world. They ran on all the local lines as well as many others across Scotland.
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) I am surprised every day by just how beautiful the view is from my office in the City Centre. I can see the river, the bridges, as far as Broughty Ferry and over towards Fife. It is one of the most amazing views and I am lucky enough to see it every day. Such a beautiful and intimate, yet lively and exciting city.
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) After moving here 2.5 years ago, its great to be in a city that seems to be refusing to stand still & is working to secure itself as one of the leading 'creative' cities in the UK outside of the capitals.
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) What surprises me about Dundee is how little people living outsidethe City realise how much Dundee has changed over the years and what a fantastic place this is to live, work and visit. I have lived in Dundee all my life and have raised my family here and I would never have had it any other way.
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) Where would the city of Dundee be without it's truly inspiring son? William Mcgonagall: Often referred to as the worst poet by many.

"When the moon is fair and roond
Aw the fishes swim fae Ayr tae Troon
When the moon is roond and fair
Aw the fishes swim from Troon tae Ayr"

Truly the worst but also the best poet to have ever lived.
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) The waterfront itself! Being able to jog along the path at sunrise is really quite something and when the V & A at Dundee building is built the views will be spectacular!
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) The brilliant Macmanus Galleries to the Blues Festival. Always plenty to do. Really looking forward to the V and A. its all going on in Dundee.
I'm just checking in, come back soon!
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) West Fest on Magdalen Green. A great day for everyone. We were raising funds for the upgrade of Roseangle Play-Park and were surprised and delighted by peoples' generosity and support.
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) The most exciting thing for me recently was discovering all about the law tunnel! It would be amazing to be able to see it and walk through a piece of history that had been shut away for so long.
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) The Women's History Walk taught me about Dundee women's long history of innovation, creativity and political struggle.
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) I recently moved to Dundee, the first thing that struck me was the friendliness of the people and the 'village' atmosphere even though it is a city. I enjoy the interesting architecture and street art depicting the history of the city ... or just for fun. There are so many events hosted to share knowledge in the sciences and arts - science cafe, saturday evening lectures, comedy clubs, many of which are free to the public. The Discovery point, McManus gallery, Science museum and other museums also add to the interesting things to do. Not least also the view across the Tay to North Fife is spectacular. I moved to Dundee from Switzerland and find that my life is actually richer and more varied here.
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) The view coming over the Tay Bridge by train. Awe inspiring

Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) The city is very diverse but has so much to offer visitors from great architecture to sporting centres of excellence. There are fantastic places to eat and so much to do from ice-skating, theatres and cinemas. Dundee really is the place for everyone
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) The computer games culture in Dundee is excellent; it's easy to meet industry folks for a pint, particularly (Bert) Wednesdays and I enjoy fighting game action with Giant Attack Dundee as well, also in the pub.
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) Dundee, it's no secret, some love it whilst loathing it but it's always home.
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) the amazing views from Ninewells Hospital - got to be the best views of any hospital in Scotland
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) I'm surprised there is not more opportunity taken by the council to have cultural events throughout the year. It is good to see the city developiong though and with the V&A, the new City Square, etc., there is an opportunity to continue to develop a different side of the city. The City of Culture tag has done well for other cities it has attached itself to and would be a real boost for Dundee.
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) I like the way Dundee is renewing itself, learning from its past and creating beautiful, interesting places. I love attending events, knowing I will meet interesting people who have lived all their lives in Dundee and have a wealth of stories about the city. I love the history of Dundee women as outlined in the Women's Heritage Trail which shows women's creativity, imagination, enterprise and courage - qualities which have helped to make the city what it is today.

Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) Just love my home town. No matter where I go, it doesn't live up to Dundee!!
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) In 1901 the RRS Discovery was launched from Dundee and took Captain Scott on an epic joiurney of discovery to Antarctica. What I find exciting about Dundee is that it is now the city itself that is on a journey of discovery with the people of Dundee as the crew.
Q) What surprises you about the city?

A) Nothing surprises me about Dundee - it's the visitors to the city that get surprised.

:)
