Dundee has gone through an incredible creative regeneration. With the imminent arrival of V&A, the refurbishment of McManus and a flourishing dance community, the city has an abundance of creativity. <b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> I think that Dundee has one of the most beautiful locations for a city in the whole of the UK. The city's views over the River Tay never fail to make me stop and take a moment. The river brings a serenity to the city, it's like living in a vibrant seaside town.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> - Braithwaite's tea and coffee shop in Castle St - Summer Sunday free brass band concert at Magdalen Green followed by drinks and food from one or more of the many bars and restaurants on Perth Rd - The brilliant Dundee Blues Bonanza .... It introduced Home Bargains and the TJ Morris Company to the city!
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> I'm not Dundee born but live here now and will continue to. Not sure how exactly to put it into words, but I feel there is a feeling in Dundee of 'we're all in this together'. With that attitude, a lot could be achieved.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> I went to visit friends from University in Dundee and was surprised at everything the city had to offer. I particularly enjoyed my visit to verdant works and cocktails on the terrace in the sun at the DCA.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> great bars springing up in the west end, fantastic cafes. the stunning views of the river and bridges that change daily
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> I love Dundee's attitude; fun and friendly with none of the pretence that you get from other cities. I think the thing I like most about Dundee is walking about, looking up and seeing some architecture that you missed before. I love the Dundee accent, the building, the galleries, the pubs , the shops, the people, the history and heritage but most of all I love Groucho's second-hand record and CD store. Magic!
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Well for such a small city, I personally think it is a great and fun place to live. I love the city centre, it might be minute compared to other cities but it is continuing to grow and develop into a place that could possibly rival the bigger cities centres. I think that the water front project, once it is finished, will look great and will bring more people down to Dundee. Also, the seating area outside the caird hall is being changed around, which will also make the town centre look better. There are some great looking buildings in Dundee right now and more on their way, such as the new olympia. There is no denying that Dundee has a lot to offer.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> The people - I've never met friendlier people in my entire life. Walks down by the Tay and afternoons spent on Magdalen green on a sunny day are unbeatable!
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Amazing ancient archaeology under our feet, just waiting to be discovered: the medieval burial grounds under the Auld Steeple; the mystery of the Bronze Age Balgarthno Stone Circle, and the McManus Galleries with their unique collection of Pictish monuments inspiring us to gaze into the past and wonder who? what? and why?
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> The sense of humour in Dundee is fantastic! We don't take ourselves too seriously but we do appreciate our rich cultural heritage. Strong women play a big part - past and present!
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> The beautiful views, the wealth of culture, and the warmth of its people. Dundee truly is a Historic City and the V &amp; A is coming to a prestigious location in Scotland.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Windsurfing on the Tay with dolphins and seals playing around is something few cities can offer.

<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> I like the ambition of the waterfront project, and the collaboration between different agencies in the city which are bringing it about, and hope that it surpasses all expectations.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Every day I'm pleasantly surprised and enthralled by the breadth, depth and richness of the cultural activities and endeavours of the people of Dundee. Not just the large, and growing, artistic, musical, theatrical and literary community but the ordinary people as well.

<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> I recently moved to Dundee, the first thing that struck me was the friendliness of the people and the 'village' atmosphere even though it is a city. I enjoy the interesting architecture and street art depicting the history of the city ... or just for fun. There are so many events hosted to share knowledge in the sciences and arts - science cafe, saturday evening lectures, comedy clubs, many of which are free to the public. The Discovery point, McManus gallery, Science museum and other museums also add to the interesting things to do. Not least also the view across the Tay to North Fife is spectacular. I moved to Dundee from Switzerland and find that my life is actually richer and more varied here.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> The city is ready for change - despite the economic issues it faces, despite the impact of a difficult history and despite the outdated perception of some people outside the City. It is in the process of positive change and achieving UK City of Culture status would accelerate that process.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> From the small grassroots voluntary arts organisations to the organisations, teams and Directors of the city's notable arts venues, to business that invests and sponsors culture in Dundee. Everyone has a voice and space to discuss, join in and start up. Its an inclusive city where art and culture are not out of bounds or highbrow, its open to anyone.

<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Baldovie toll is at the start of the Kellas Road NE of Whitfield. Here you can find the old toll bridge which is the best place in Dundee to play Pooh Sticks! Robbie is watching his stick floating downstream.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Having spent 12 years working in Dundee, I was constantly amazed at the friendliness &amp; generosity of the school community of Ss. Peter &amp; Paul's Primary School.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> A bright, blue-sky day and the sun shining on the beautiful River Tay and glinting off the railway bridge. Why would anyone want to live anywhere else?
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> set on the Firth of Tay to the south, country side within 5 minutes drive to north and a beach to the east. How diverse scenery can you get? Are we mad? You bet judging by this picture of The Broughty New year Dook.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Dundee is the backdrop to my childhood and holds so many indelible and personal moments in time. But beyond my personal experience, this little city on the river has a richness of history, a truly international legacy and some of the best takeaways in Scotland. From Scott, through Victoria to Dennis the Menace, Dundee consistently punches above it weight and although I now live far away, a part of my heart will always be looking out at those two bridges spanning the Tay.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Dundee Dental Hospital, is an amazing but hidden and un thought of asset to the city of Dundee, it is hive of activity with staff, students and patients it bridges the gap between the students and the residents of Dundee by being an outstanding teaching institution that provides quality care for the general public!
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> it is a much more vibrant place to live and work than people expect and is full of wonderful surprises
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> As a Fifer now living in Perth I have watched Dundee grow into a vibrant city.It has so much to offer not just shopping but good restaurants and many interesting places to visit but my favourite place is the McManus Gallery and Museum.It's a stunning building with many interesting exhibits.I would also like to mention the DJCAD Degree show which is held in May, it's a fantastic opportunity to see all the talented students,their amazing work and to get a chance to wander around the University
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Dundee is a really wonderful wee city with a brilliant creative community. Although I left Dundee almost a year ago now, I miss it dearly- and it just amazes me to see how much has changed in the past year. There's so much going on, and the people who live in Dundee are passionate about making it a great place to live and to stay. This city has so much potential- and the people to see that potential being fulfilled.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Dundee has a vibrant business community and this can only grow in light of recent developments eg V&amp;A Dundee, Malmaison etc. The people are warm, humorous, friendly... And I LOVE Dundee United FC.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Each scheme has their own sense of community, of closeness and of belonging. Schools in less privileged areas are improving, moving forward and an increasing number of youngsters from these areas are showcasing their talents through various mediums such as acedemia, dance, drama, art or music etc Im a proud Dundonian , raised in Whitfield and have taken the strength and determination instilled in me whilst growing up and have used this to my advantage to strive to be successful in my adult career. It is no longer the case that 'scheme' kids are being left behind.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> What surprises me it the rise dundee has made from post-industrial city to bidding for city of culture status. lets go for it!

<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> What doesn't surprise me about Dundee? As an 'incomer' 19 years ago what struck me then and now is the never ending enthusiasm of the people, the fantastic natural surroundings, the long term vision for the place and its proximity to nature, wild places and other cities. The creative talent in the City is amazing from musicians, film makers, dancers, games developers, artists, actors, theatre groups..... I could go on.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> ...the huge pot of creative talent and the wealth of optimism in the city generally.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> In Dundee, there's something for everyone. We're not local to Dundee but come here for the shopping, the indoor skatepark, the observatory, the leisure pool and more besides.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> we have been working on an environmental and cultural project linked to the amazing Dighty Burn...oh...so many people interested in so many aspects of this area...
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Dundee 's friendly locals, its beautiful setting on the Tay, its stunning architecture, sunshine and outstanding art school all drew me to the city which I now call home. The passion and talent of Dundee's creative community and the various organisations that support it, with my particular favorite being Vanilla Ink Studios, have continued to surprise me, with their commitment and determination, inspiring and motiving me in my own practice. Dundee creatives are putting this great city on the map, and well, you may be surprised, but I'm not! :)

<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> The City's history really means something to its inhabitants, to Scotland and to the wider world.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> The quality of the local bands and the enthusiasm of the local gig-going community. I've been going to gigs for over 15 years and the banter, humour and passion never ceases to amaze me
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Dundee Is a great city with many things to do and see and it also is the gateway to the Angus Glens and north Fife. But Most of all its the place I grew up in, went to school in, went plundering, went berry-picking in and is Home to the greatest team ever Dundee FC and when I finish my days working down in Leeds I will come Hame to the Big 'D' to see old friends and reconnect with this Constantly evolving city that never forgets its past. Forward Thinking Dundee...as always :)

<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Dundee's maritime heritage often overshadowed by Glasgow but non the less ust as important. The Discovery,Unicorn and North Carr.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Nothing surprises me...thrilled to find Dundee is finally getting the recognition it deserves. It's always been Glasgow or Edinburgh, then later Aberdeen, to get any accolades going, Am I biased? Of course a little bit, just a little, but if we are/were really familiar with Dundee's history being a city of culture isn't a revelation.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> I'm not a Dundonian I'm from over the bridge in Fife but I've visited Dundee many many times since I was a child. It was always where we chose to go 'on a proper shopping day out'. Over the years I've seen so many changes to this wonderful place. I loved it when I was a kid but I remember it looking quite dated, its now having an overhaul and being sympathetic to some important features unique to the city, it really is starting to look the part. Dundee definately deserves its place as a city of culture.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> The outdoor swimming club based at Broughty Ferry Pier "Ye Amphibious Ancients Bathing Association" at 128 years old is, so I believe, the last remaining outdoors swimming club in the country. I love the history , the idea of it still going strong and I wish I was brave enough to join in. One day I will.

They are as spirited group of individuals, who are friendly and welcoming to people in their city. They also celebrate everything their city offers depsite the negative image it has been wrongly given
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Dundee went into an industrial nosedive in the 1970s, which I remember well. After many painful years it has emerged as a vibrant university town humming with energy, youth and ideas. It is wonderful to see old jute mills converted to artists' studios, to visit a refurbished McManus, to eat at the DCA and the Rep. The waterfront project is well under way, as is a physic garden being constructed by volunteers at Ninewells. Energy is the word !
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Dundee has been through many recessions and hard times but it always manages to re-invent itself and this latest chapter will prove what we Dundonians already know - this is a fantastic city with a truly creative gene in its DNA.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> The hugely supportive and inclusive student culture. The West End of Dundee is a hub for all sorts of student activity and promotes a truly welcoming vibe. The number of independent traders and retailers along places such as the Perth Road makes Dundee thrive and elude individuality. It is great to see residents supporting local business and hailing from Derry, the current city of culture, I can see how winning this bid could only boost Dundee's already growing culture sector.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Sunniest city in UK, in an exquisite setting on the Silvery Tay. Small and compact yet has with a vibrant social and academic environment, including two Universities.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> The unrivalled cultural reach in the city. From the Rep to the DCA, and the Art Gallery; the frequent orchestral concerts and the Dundee Choral Union.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Dundee's Parks are the nicest and most varied in any city I have been to. Magdalen Green has wonderful charm and is full of friendly people on a sunny day
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> It's that Dundee isn't better known for the wonderful place that it is. Outsiders dwell on the negatives about the city but the reality is that that we are a small city with a thriving creative and artistic scene coupled with a surprising smattering of the high tech. And I love that our most famous statues are of cartoon characters!
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> A Californian native, born and raised, I've made my way over to Dundee to attend university, and I can't even begin to describe my fascination with this little gem of a city. I've never resided in a more genuine, unpretentious place. Dundee presents itself at face value, and exists in its stubborn manner of take me as I am or don't take me at all. Meeting new people, I'm familiar with their immediate reaction of, "Why on earth would you leave California for Dundee??" but I'm content and thrilled to be in this city of dialect so thick I can hardly decipher it on the best of days. Because after two years of living here, I can't imagine walking down the street and not being able to ask the kilted man if he's a true Scotsman.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Dundee is a multicultural city. It has a great creative hub with some inspiring works by people from all around the world. It is a thriving place for art, music, dance, theater and science. Dundee never fails to surprise me. It is not just the city of discovery but also the creative city yet to be reinvented.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Community involvement which takes a pride in it's heritage and culture such as Whitfield Community Centre , in the middle of a peripheral housing scheme, which was recently involved in an arts production in collaboration with Dundee Rep. This included drama, dance and a choral performance. Each performance was sold out and supported well by the Dundee public.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> I have been coming to Dundee since my students days in the 1980's. My favourite places still include Sunrise from the Law, seeing the city from the Tay Bridge, arriving by train along the river with the Tay silvery in winter sunlight. More recently the upgrading around The McManus gallery and the quality of exhibitions it attracts - I have a particular soft spot for this part of the city as My 5 * Great-Grandfather has a statue there and I recently found out that it was partly funded by the people he employed - inspirational at the time?
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> The green spaces, the parks and grassy fields inside the city. The ease of access to open countryside and stunning views. Fife looks great from Dundee! The great variety of shops and cafés in the city. I appreciate the large number of independent coffee-houses as well as the bigger brands. The history of innovation and scientific discovery, coupled with the more well-known comic book element make Dundee unique. The centres of learning do a great job of sending out folks well-prepared for professional life. It's a lovely city with great potential!
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> The tabletop gaming community! A great and growing group of diverse individuals, shops and organisations who help make amazing things happen in the city on a daily basis!
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> I'd like to tell you about Chae Strathie who spent his lunch breaks writing children's books. He now has several published. I have noticed in Dundee the large amount of people who in their spare time are doing incredibly creative things, such as my husband who works for the council but in his own time is a potter. My friend who works at two jobs and in her spare time makes wonderful table decorations from sweets. The friend making childen's puppets etc etc...Dundee is a crafty city
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Dundee is the sunniest city in Scotland with the sunniest personality. We have great nightlife, with sociable friendly inhabitants.Theatres &amp; music. The Blues festival - biggest in Europe! Great walks - over the Sidlaws, or by the silvery Tay, or through one of the many parks. So many activities - some for the young - some for the old - and some for the rest in-between. Football ...with friendly rivalry! etc etc etc
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Dundee is a city in the middle of the most beautiful countryside. I love going my business about the city and suddenly getting a glimpse of the snow capped Sidlaws, the sun sparkling on the Tay, or the green hills of Fife. And in what other city can you spot red squirrels or watch seals sunbathing on a sandbank just metres away?
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Having returned to Dundee after 12 years I am constantly surprised it how Dundee has changed for the better. It has become an articulate and confident city, one that I am proud to say I come from.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Dundee has inspired me to be everything i can be i live in Fife but attend university. The university of Abertay Dundee has helped me in my career to become a marketer thanks to the outstanding support through mentoring and teaching i have receive from DR Jason Turner the head of the marketing &amp; business programme at Abertay. I have met some tenacious and determined individuals who innovate and bring their business ideas to life with great support from Abertay. Thank you for inspiring me to be all i can be.

<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> I moved to Dundee 14 years ago. I love the vibrancy, the events scene, the bars, the people, the overall creativity of this fantastic city. It has brought me life, family, friends and love.

<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Dudhope Park is a sometimes forgotten gem in the centre of Dundee! Dudhope Park has been improved with lighting in the skatepark and nearby paths, improvements to the tennis courts and - very soon - a brand new play park! Being the main green space in the centre of Dundee it's a great place to enjoy the sunshine!
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> As someone who grew up on the other side of the Tay, Dundee was a quiet, slow burn for me. Once discovered, however, I loved the light, the people, the culture, the history, the new, and the magnificant river that reflects its glory and ambition.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> The abundance of hope, positivity and generosity of spirit apparent across every part of this city
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> I love Dundee's commitment to research and development, that it welcomes all with the friendliness and generosity with her citizens are renowned for. What surprises me is how surprised visitors are at how much to see and do there is here.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Dundee is defined by its people. Although many don't have much, they are rich in character, spirit and friendship. For me Dundee is a great place to live and grow up and truly has something for everyone. Although the streets are ever changing, Dundee has kept its own character due to its people.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Dundee is a fantastic city! I'm proud to be brought up in Dundee. The city has loads of culture, we are getting the V&amp;A which only London has, we are getting a £1 billion project on the mouth of the Tay and we are home to one of the greatest comic book series in the UK I love Dundee and I think we should earn the 2017 City of Culture
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> The stunning views across the Tay River are a delight. Dundee's south facing sunny aspect - indeed the only city in Scotland to face South- is a secret bonus. It has a "can do" attitude giving the City an air of quiet confidence, based on a rich and strong cultural heritage and identity, and a present day wealth in Education and Technology.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> The multitude of events hosted throughout the year - jazz; dance; classical music; talks; comedy; recent major art exhibitions at the McManus; and more. Just wish I had more time to go to them all!
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> We have so many talented designers based in Dundee and seeing their work in the Telegraph is great! Local people are really proud of homegrown talent. All the old architecture and Dundee's history is beautiful &amp; fascinating.

<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Dundee has everything for everyone. Beautiful location, friendly locals and a fascinating diverse history that we should be proud to share. People with adventure and creativity in their hearts they have sought and fought for their place in history. Underated and often berated Dundonians should be proud to stand up and be recognised as a/ the city of culture.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> As soon as there is a hint of sunshine I love the way students at Dundee University sit on the grassy areas on the University campus and bring these areas to life. Different languages and cultures mingle together enjoying the light and sunshine which has a special quality in Dundee.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> I love the Magdalen Yard and its vast green garden. Also the DCA (Dundee Contemporary Arts), its courses, the atmosphere in Jute's cafe, everything!
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Scotland's national contemporary dance company is based in Dundee at the Rep.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Dundee is a very peaceful, homogenous and beautiful city. You can go round the town at any time of the day and feel safe. Just love it.

<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Dundee is a city which really emphasizes its natural beauty. From the spectacular views from The Law to the Tay Bridge, there isn't a part of Dundee that doesn't have a beautiful aspect about it. <b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Not sure about a hidden secret, the secret seems to be the combination of contrasts that enrich each (besides the emerging strengths of "real" culture): The Tay, different from all heights and angles (foregrounds of beautiful parks (Balgay Hill, Magdalen Green) or industrial heritage or multis or Meggie's Centre); Buildings old and new of different uses (the Mecca Bingo beside the church, the mosque among the old jute mills, the new university buildings beside old houses, the medieval arches under the pub back exit); And then the "real" culture as it spreads throughout the city: Scottish Dance Theatre and Dundee Schools Musical Theatre, Community Theatre in the Rep, small scale viewings in the DCA and Hannah Mclure Centre, school competitions (art and music). <b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Dundee has the sandy beaches at Broughty Ferry, the RSS Discovery in dock, and the Sidlaw Hills as it's backbone. What's not to like? Add to this the uniqueness of The Law which overlooks much of the city with the Mills Observatory in Balgay and you have a very special city indeed.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Its a great location. Its not a hidden secret. The River Tay is a most beautiful waterfront to cycle along. I came to work in Dundee 30+ years ago as NHS Tayside was providing innovative Clinical Psychology services. Dundee continues to develop better ways to reduce the impact of historical poverty. I have enjoyed living and working amongst friendly people who know their history is often a mix of wealth and hardship but are keen live in a thriving place and make this better for all. Concerts, theatre, parks and nightlife all contribute to this. Braithwaites tea &amp; coffee shop is just one small corner of this.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> The Mills Observatory; the only full-time public astronomical observatory in the UK / and of course the sunshine most days.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Since having my son who is 2 I've rediscovered Dundee, in particular some of the incredible green spaces we have.Balgay and Magdalen are within walking distance for us, however the Botanic Gardens (or the jungle as my son refers to it) is a little haven full of surprises. Perfect for picnics, playtime and public art. They've hosted some incredible events over the years, N_ILK at the Botanics being one of my favourites.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> The Scouringburn- it can come up from culverts to surprise people when the tide is high. A phalanx of jute mills, bristling with chimney stalks, between Dudhope Park and Hawkhill used that tiny stream again and again for steam engines. Many of the mills are successfully re-used by artists, businesses, students and residents. Industriekultur is alive here like nowhere else in Scotland.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> The welcoming and 'can-do' attitude that supports a culture of great art and science here, demonstrated by the fact that even the taxi drivers are proud of the achievements of the University of Dundee
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> I would like to thank Baldragon Academy for the opportunities they have presented my daughter in her first year there. So far she has been successfully involved in the football, basketball, netball, and heptathlon and cross country teams. She has also taken part in the National Rock Challenge competition, Dundee Schools Art Festival in four different categories, sung in the Gold Leng medal competition and getting a main part in the school end of term show. Academically the school have also encouraged her to excel in all areas of the curriculum making her a confident and successful individual.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Heart Space Yoga and the Whiteroom's - two vibrant and supportive yoga centres in the lovely city of Dundee. Nourishing folks, impoving health and mental well-being.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> The view from Wormit as the sun sets.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> The big sky over Fairmuir Park on a summer's evening, walking back home from The Plough.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> The people are wonderful, there is always something to do at the weekend and something to go see. A wonderful place to live and study.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> The village community. The length of time we spend playing 'wha d'ye ken?'; a game which involves 2 initially unfamilar Dundonians grilling each other on past schools, jobs, pals, cousins and favoured social locations until a mutual connection is inevitably established (and all is right in the world again).
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Nothing surprises me about Dundee - it's the visitors to the city that get surprised.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Dundee is lovely city, I was impressed by the cleanliness in the city and the commitment that people have in their jobs. I attended the epidemiology classes and it was amazing. the reception on arrival was fantastic, the organization was lovely. we had wonderful lecturers who were knowledgeable. The rooms where we were putting up were lovely and we also had a wonderful kitchen where we prepared our meals. I also admired your public relations. keep up the lovely culture. bravo and have a lovely time during your Bid. I would love to visit Dundee again and enjoy their hospitality
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Always a thrill to drive over the "Silv'ry Tay" on the approach to Dundee-it looks different every time depending on the weather, but "silvery" it always is!  Then there is the "Can Do" attitude which is apparent everywhere in all the building work at the Waterfront, and finally the down to earth friendliness of the people.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> The weather always makes Dundee a great place to visit.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> A city full of culture and history. From the industrial revolution to more recent times Dundee has played a huge role in the UKs history.
<b>Q) What surprises you about the city?</b><br><hr><b>A)</b> Bridge FM - Dundee's hospital radio station at Ninewells. Excellent banter from local presenters.
